DESCRIPTION

The Tissue-Tek® Paraform® Sectionable Cassette System is a true innovation in cassette design. The two-part system is composed of a rugged frame and a cassette insert made of an inert proprietary material.

Its unique sectionability makes Paraform® a significant improvement over standard cassettes. Specimen orientation can now be preserved from grossing through to microtomy by simply orienting the grossed specimen in 1 of 4 available Paraform® cassette types: Standard, Biopsy, Orientation, or the 13 x 13 insert, eliminating repeats caused by improper orientation.

After grossing, the tissue section is placed into the Paraform® cassette, positioned as it should be cut, and processed in any tissue processor. The proprietary material is able to withstand exposure to all the volatile reagents and fixatives typically used in histology. Once the Paraform® cassettes are removed from the processor, they are ready for embedding. The Paraform® cassette eliminates the need to open the cassette and reorient tissue during embedding, thus simplifying embedding, increasing productivity, and streamlining tissue preparation.

The Paraform® material used for the cassette has sectioning characteristics similar to paraffin. It lets you cut right through the cassette bottom without artifacts and without damage to the blade. The inert Paraform® material does not pick up stain and does not interfere with microscopic examination.

Although the Paraform® cassette is designed for use with the Tissue-Tek® AutoTEC®, Paraform® is compatible with all existing laboratory methods and manual embedding processes. In addition, the 4 unique cassette types accommodate a variety of specimens, even those requiring special orientation like skin or arterial specimens.

Paraform® provides total automation of the embedding process when used with the Tissue-Tek® AutoTEC® Automated Embedding System.

Paraform® Standard Cassette

The Paraform® standard cassette is designed to preserve the orientation of routine specimens.

Paraform® Biopsy Cassette

Reduced pore size in the biopsy cassette accommodates smaller specimens.

Paraform® Orientation Cassette

Upright posts accommodate difficult-to-orient specimens (such as skin, arteries, and gall bladder specimens), permitting them to be oriented upright or on edge.

Multiple frame colors

Paraform® cassette frames are available in 12 colors to enable easy specimen identification.
